SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This refers to the practice of optimizing web pages and sites to increase their visibility within search engines. There are two main types of SEO: On-page optimization and Off-page optimization.

Search engine optimization (or “SEO”) is the process of affecting the visibility of a web page in search engine results pages (“SERPs”). Several techniques include optimizing keywords, backlinks, titles, headings, and descriptions.

You may already know what SEO is, but if you’re new to the field, here’s a quick overview of how it works.

To increase the likelihood that a website will be displayed at the top of a user’s list of results, a site owner may wish to submit his/her site to search engines like Google Inc.’s Bing, Yahoo! and Yandex often referred to as the big three. 

When a user conducts a search query, the search engine sends out a variety of consumer-level and algorithmic-based signals to server farms, which then return a ranked list of websites to the user. These algorithms use a wide range of variables, including popularity, importance, freshness, recency, bounce rate, time on site, domain authority, and meta tags. RankBrain is the name given to the algorithm developed by Google Brain that actually ranks the result lists produced by its search algorithm.

It’s also important to remember that what worked yesterday might not necessarily work today, tomorrow, next week, or even next year. Each month brings with it changes to Google’s algorithms, and you can’t count on them remaining consistent forever. That said, here are some tried-and-true techniques that consistently drive strong organic traffic to your site:

Understand that Google is trying to give users what they want.

In order to accomplish that goal, Google uses a variety of tools, including automated web crawlers and human reviewers, to analyze which sites provide the highest value for users who are searching for particular types of content.

Write great content.

This sounds obvious, but it’d be hard to overstate the importance of writing good content. Writing great content is far from easy, especially if you’re doing it yourself, but it’ll definitely increase the likelihood of getting a solid Google ranking.

Use keyword research

Social media enables you to connect with those people directly, effectively promoting your content to large groups of potential buyers.

Submit your content to directories or forum sites.

The idea behind submitting your content to directory sites or forum sites is that they’ll include your URL within their listings, increasing the chances that someone will stumble upon your content. Unfortunately, they often require registration in order to post content, so unless you already know someone who holds that kind of power, these options aren’t really worth pursuing.

Create compelling titles and descriptions for every piece of content on your site.

Titles and descriptions play a huge role in determining whether a user clicks on a given result. Titles should be short enough to fit neatly inside a browser window yet long enough to convey the main point of the article. Descriptions should be brief, too, though less concise than titles. Here again, make sure you consider the size of the text since mobile devices tend to display smaller images.

Focus on creating original content.

If you have access to a blog that publishes regularly, start posting there instead of reusing old content that’s been sitting in your archives.

There are many reasons why businesses need to know about search engine optimization techniques. One of these reasons is due to the fact that if they don’t learn about how search engines work, then they cannot optimize their website for maximum traffic.

Another reason for knowing about search engine optimization is the fact that it can help improve sales. If people type in a particular keyword phrase, they want to get the best possible answer. If a business does not have a good ranking for the keywords they typed in, then it doesn’t matter what products they are selling; no one will find them. So, if a company wants to sell their product or service, it should ensure that they do everything possible to rank high for a certain keyword phrase.

A final reason for knowing about search engines is that they can provide great insight into the market. By analyzing the competitive landscape, companies can identify trends and opportunities. If you look at some of the major search engines, you can easily tell exactly what industries they serve and where they compete.

Types of SEO

On-Page SEO

On-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to any changes you make to your site’s content and design to improve its visibility in search engines. There are two types of on-page SEO – internal and external. Internal SEO focuses on making changes to your website content and structure, while external SEO involves using offsite techniques to create links to your site.

Internal On-Page SEO

Making sure the information on each page contains keywords related to your business and optimizing these pages for speed and readability are key to increasing traffic and conversions. These improvements should be made across the entire site, not just individual pages. You may need to consider hiring someone who specializes in on-page optimization if you feel that your skills aren’t up to snuff.

External On-Page SEO

When you’re working on internal SEO, remember that people don’t type in URLs directly; they go online to find what they want. External links point them to different parts of your site, so adding quality backlinks to relevant sites is an effective way to increase your site’s ranking. Your goal here isn’t necessarily to get tons of links — it’s to have links pointing back to relevant pages on your site that already rank highly. Use Google Webmaster Tools to identify websites that link out to yours and ask permission before linking to their websites. When doing this, make sure you mention how useful the resource was to your visitors and provide a direct benefit for the site owner.

 Off-Page SEO

 Off-page SEO refers to marketing practices not directly related to webpage content. It involves methods to get people who’ve already heard about your business to visit your website. These techniques help search engines find relevant pages to show in their results.

The majority of marketers focus solely on what’s happening on-page, but off-page SEO is equally (if not more) important. Here’s how I would break down off-page SEO.

  • Social Media Marketing – If you have a Facebook account or use any social networking sites, you should consider using them to promote your business. There are plenty of tools that allow you to automatically post updates, but if you don’t have time or want to learn how to do it manually, there are paid options as well.
  • Guest Blogging – Many bloggers choose to accept guest posts from other blogs. You often need to contact the owner before you can gain access to the blog, and some owners might require you to pay a fee for posting. But once you’re approved, you’ll probably have complete control over your post, including title, keywords, and images.
  • Link Building – The most important thing for a website is to get links from other websites. It will be easy to get links if you have a high-quality site. But if your site has low quality, it’s hard to get links. So how can we increase the number of links? The answer is link building. Link building is an activity that involves getting backlinks (or inbound links) from other sites. This is done by submitting articles and press releases on blogs and directories. You can also submit your site to search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.

Technical SEO

Technical Seo (or On-Page) – Optimizing your website using best practices & white hat techniques. We focus mainly on Robots.txt, XML sitemaps, content marketing, site speed optimization, core web vitals, indexing etc. All aspects are equally as important.

Local SEO

Local Search Optimization (LSO) takes place on a local level. LSO helps businesses market locally by using keywords and phrases specific to a particular area. There are many ways to perform LSO. To do LSO correctly, you need to take account of these factors:

Your target audience – Who are you trying to reach? What age group, gender, education level, income, social class, etc.? Are they located anywhere near you? If not, where might they potentially be looking online? Where do you want them to go if they click on your website?

Your location – Is there a high concentration of potential customers nearby? Do you have any unique advantages over competitors? Can you offer something that others cannot? How does your business differ from your competitors?

Keywords – Which words should you optimize for? Should you use variations of those keywords? Words that make sense to your targeted audience?

Competitors – Find out what keywords/phrases your competition focuses on. Are they getting results? If they are, how are they doing it? What strategies are they using? Are they reaching their audience?

Google My Business Listing – Set the right information on your company’s Google My Business listing. Include your physical address, phone number, hours of operation, services offered, special promotions, directions to the store/business, contact email, reviews, ratings, links to social media profiles, pictures, videos, news releases, etc. Make sure everything is accurate and complete. Also, find out whether you’ve already set up a review page.

Social Media Marketing – Utilize various social media platforms to get your message across and increase brand awareness. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.

Website Traffic Analysis – Track how visitors arrive at your site. Use analytics tools like Google Analytics, Hotjar, and SimilarWeb to track traffic data. Measure how many visits per day, week, month, quarter, year, etc. Create goals to determine if people are coming back to your site. Are they taking action and converting to sales?

Conversion Rate Optimization – Figure out which pages convert best and focus your efforts there. Don’t worry about optimizing every page; just concentrate on the ones that drive the most traffic. Take note of the keywords that help bring users to conversion-oriented pages. Focus on increasing CTR on these pages.

Content Strategy & Planning – Determine if you’re producing quality content that resonates with audiences. Aim to publish at least three times a week on your blog and on social media channels once a day. You’ll know you’re producing good content when your readers comment and share your posts. Then analyze the comments and shares you receive to improve future posts.

Testing & Automation – Different Test types of content to identify those that generate more clicks, comments, likes, and shares. Once you figure out what works best, automate it! Using automation software like IFTTT or Zapier can save time and let you scale your marketing efforts without having to manually create automated tasks.

Paid Advertising – Pay-per-click advertising can be an effective way of finding new clients. Advertise on websites relevant to your industry, including niche blogs, forums, classified sites, etc.

Email Marketing – Send emails regularly to remind people about upcoming events, discounts, new products, and product updates.

Brand Awareness Campaigns – Work on building an image that represents your company well. Spend money on ads showing images of happy employees, positive reviews, etc.
